A little bit of country

“Our street is so quiet,” says Kevin, from the semi-detached house he shares with his partner Geneviève and their son Liam in Pointe-aux-Trembles. In this emerging east-end neighbourhood, the tranquility is palpable, with only a few songbirds occasionally breaking the silence.

The streets are bordered with row houses, where numerous families live, as evidenced by children playing in the yards.

It was indeed family that drew Kevin and Geneviève to the area. Her parents live nearby, some 20 minutes away on foot. The young woman spent her childhood here, on the eastern tip of the island. Now, she can visit her parents regularly, and they, in turn, sometimes babysit Liam when Kevin and Geneviève need a date night.

Spacious comfort

Before moving to their home two years ago, Geneviève and Kevin lived in a condo, also in Pointe-aux-Trembles. When Geneviève became pregnant, the couple knew they would need a bigger place.

So they started looking to buy a home, with specific criteria in mind:

·        The place needed to have a yard, not just for their future son to play in, but also because Geneviève wanted room for a hot tub (she finally got one last April!);

·        They wanted three floors;

·        And it had to be affordable.

After searching the Internet, Geneviève and Kevin stumbled upon their dream home. It has two living rooms, a dining room, a kitchen, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a yard. In the summer, the couple sleeps with the balcony door open to let the breeze in.

Most importantly, the size of the place is ideal for hosting friends and family. In fact, last December, both the couple’s families came over for the Holidays.

Since Pointe-aux-Trembles properties tend to be less expensive than their Downtown counterparts, the couple could find a spacious home at an enviable price. For some, living that far from the city centre would be a compromise, but Geneviève and Kevin actually prefer living in this peaceful neighbourhood.

Location, location, location

On the plus side, living in Pointe-aux-Trembles also means enjoying the perks of country living, while being close to the city’s amenities.

Kevin and Geneviève are only a few minutes away from the Pointe-aux-Prairies nature park and the Montreal Island Golf Course. Kevin, who works in the area, can get to the office easily by car, and in just 20 minutes. Plus, Liam’s daycare is just next door to work.

In the summer, the family enjoys going to their municipal outdoor pool, just down the street. They also like biking along the picturesque paths of the nature park.

When Geneviève was pregnant, she met a young woman in an aqua-fitness class. When she and Kevin moved into their new home, Geneviève was elated to discover that this same young woman was also her neighbour. Since then, the two have become great friends, and their children, who were born two days apart, are play buddies.

Thanks to their calm, sunny home, Kevin, Geneviève, and Liam have found a serene lifestyle that suits them to a T.
